Born in Rome, Adriana Morelli received her degree in voice at the "F. Cilea" Conservatory, Reggio Calabria, and completed her studies with Maestro Cataldi Tassoni.
Although her artistic training was in music, her stage career started in drama performances in various theater productions.
After returning to music, in 1978 she placed first in the young artists' competition for lyric singers held by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale, Spoleto. That year she launched her career as professional singer in her debut performance in La bohème at the Teatro Nuovo, Spoleto. She went on to win numerous awards and was voted best singer in the competitions Achille Peri (Teatro Municipale, Reggio Emilia), Maria Callas (Rai), Voci pucciniane (Teatro del Giglio, Lucca).
Her successful career grew with memorable performances on major lyrical music stages throughout Italy: Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Teatro Petruzzelli, Bari, Teatro Regio, Parma, Teatro Donizetti, Bergamo, Teatro Verdi, Trieste, Festival dei Due Mondi, Spoleto, Terme di Caracalla for Teatro dell'Opera, Rome, Teatro Regio, Turin, Arena and Teatro Filarmonico, Verona, Teatro Comunale, Florence, Torre del Lago for the Puccini Festival, Teatro Greco, Syracuse.
She has also sung in important roles from Italian opera repertory in major theaters around the world: Cologne (Oper der Stadt), Toulouse (Théâtre du Capitole), Lausanne (Théâtre Municipal), Dijon (Grand Théâtre), Hamburg (Staatsoper), Vienna (Staatsoper), the Victoria State Opera, Melbourne, Lincoln Center, New York, and the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C.
During her career, she has worked under some of the music world's most famous orchestra directors: Zubin Mehta, Jean Claude Casadesus, Lorin Maazel, Spiros Argiris, Bruno Bartoletti, Giuseppe Patanè, Nello Santi, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Daniel Oren, Riccardo Chailly, Michel Plasson, Roberto Abbado, Maurizio Arena, Rafael Frubech De Burgos. She has also won acclaim for her performance in Adriana Lecouvreur and Manon Lescaut at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Madama Butterfly in Palermo, Vienna and Cologne, Aida in Madrid, Singapore and Syracuse, Tosca in Copenhagen, Toulouse, Hamburg, Messina and Palm Beach, Suor Angelica in Bologna, Zanetto in Florence, and Don Carlos in Palm Beach.
Her wide repertory covers most operatic works by Verdi and Puccini, including La traviata, Un ballo in maschera, La forza del destino, Il trovatore, Gianni Schicchi, Il tabarro, La bohème, as well as Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, Bellini's Norma, and Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana and Verdi's Macbeth.
Recently, she sang in the title role in Wolf-Ferrari's Sly in Washington, D.C. and in Il tabarro at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. She sang in the title role in Tosca in the Fondazione Arena production that toured China and at the Teatro Bellini in Catania with Adriana Lecouvreur .
